Soccer in Coláiste Phádraig

Soccer is hugely popular in Coláiste Phádraig and the school has a proud tradition of success in Dublin, Leinster and All Ireland competitions.

Currently we enter 3 teams into FAI Schools competitions every year. Teams are entered at 1st yr, u15 and u17 level in both the Dublin League and Leinster Cup. Coláiste Phádraig competes at the top level of all competitions (Division 1).

The school has a fine full length soccer pitch on the school grounds and it is superbly maintained by the school caretaker. Training usually takes place after school on certain days. Some of the teams also utilise the school’s fully equipped gymnasium in the mornings for strength and conditioning work.

Since 2007, Coláiste Phádraig have reached 23 major soccer finals.

In that time, our 1st yrs reached the Dublin League Division 1 Final 7 times, winning 5 titles (2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2016). They also won the prestigious 1st yr Leinster Cup in 2012 and 2013. In 2012, our 1st yrs won a historic treble as they claimed the Dublin League, Leinster Cup and All Ireland title in the space of a few weeks. Our 1st yrs also reached the Leinster Champions League Final in 2016.

Our u15 team have claimed 2 Leinster Cup titles (2010, 2015) as well as 2 Dublin League titles (2013, 2014).

Our u17 team have won 2 Leinster Cups (2007, 2016) as well as 2 Dublin League titles (2014, 2015). They also reached the All Ireland Final in 2016.

In 2017, Andy Boyle became the school’s 1st International footballer as he made his senior debut against Iceland. Andy captained the team’s u16 team to Leinster Cup success in 2007 and currently plays for Preston North End in the English Championship.

Trips to Republic of Ireland matches and Liverpool matches in Anfield are regularly organised to further promote soccer in the school.

In 2016, a Liverpool Supporters Club was set up to cater for the huge number of young Liverpool fans in the school.
