Many congratulations to TY student Conor Abbott, who proudly represented his school and country at the
Schools Cross Country International Championships in Bangor, Wales last Saturday, where he secured a fantastic silver medal as
part of the Irish Schools Team.
Competing against elite athletes from schools across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, Conor faced extremely challenging
conditions, with marshy ground and uneven terrain testing even the most experienced runners. Despite this, he delivered an
outstanding performance in the 4 x 1,500m Intermediate mixed relay event.
Running the crucial second leg, Conor showed remarkable composure and determination, maintaining a strong and consistent
pace throughout. His excellent awareness ensured a smooth baton exchange, keeping his team firmly in contention.
Impressively, Conor recorded the fastest time on the team—4 minutes and 43 seconds—highlighting both his ability and
commitment.
Beyond his achievement, Conor is a fantastic role model within the school community. His dedication to training, positive
attitude and unwavering commitment to cross country are evident in everything he does. He leads by example, inspiring others
to strive for their best.
This prestigious silver medal is a well-deserved reward for Conor’s hard work and perseverance.
Well done, Conor! Once again, the school community is very proud of you.
